As we round off the Tastes of Northampton series and National World’s Food and Drink Month, it is evident that we should be proud of the places and people who have put our town on the map. We have continued to celebrate Northampton’s hospitality industry with eight features this September – each with different individuals who have put their stamp on the food and drink scene.

A long-standing business owner of more than a decade, who is the most decorated cheesemaker in the town, has shared his favourite thing about being so heavily involved in Northampton’s food and drink scene. Steve Reid first established Friars Farm, located at the heart of the town in Foundry Street, 13 years ago.

The owner of an Indian takeaway, which has become well-established in Northampton over the past four decades, is proud to celebrate the vibrant textures and flavours of food from across the world. Kingsthorpe Spice, in Alexandra Terrace, has served authentic Indian cuisine for more than 40 years – and Mamun Ali and his family took over two decades ago.

The owner of a new cafe is blown away that the people of Northampton are choosing to spend their hard-earned money with her business, which was only an idea last year. Genevieve’s Cafe, a family-run business in Dragonfly Way, Pineham village, hoped to become a vibrant community hub after opening at the start of May.

The founder of a multi-award-winning artisan ice cream business says she would love to see more collaboration between producers, in the latest instalment of the Tastes of Northampton series. The Chronicle & Echo joined National World’s Food and Drink Month, to champion the amazing people, places and producers who have put our town on the map.

A business owner has praised the “massive boom” of food outlets across Northampton, particularly the town centre, since her cafe opened four years ago during the pandemic. Esquires Coffee, in Dychurch Lane, is the venture of husband and wife Zofur and Halima Ali.

A multi-award-winning cake maker says she does not hesitate in recommending other businesses, as she believes in no competition and the fact there is room for everyone. Mindy Robinson has run SophistiCake Creations from her home in Duston since she founded the business at the end of 2012.

The owner of two businesses encourages the rising hospitality stars of Northampton to use her hidden gem space as a base to build and grow loyal customers. Tracey Onley, who runs T’s Coffee and supports her partner Bela Kacsmarik in running The Courtyard Creperie, is the next to speak out for the Tastes of Northampton series.
